The Raeyan Sector is located in the Beta quadrant behind the Klingon Empire and the Romulan Star Empire. The Raeyan sector is bordered on the other side by the Krazzel and the C'hakilian's, leaving the only normal space approach to the Sector via a roundabout route around the Romulan Star Empire.

Access can also be gained via a portal in the sector although the majority of the local ships are unable to sustain a stable enough Warp Field to navigate it. The portal allows a ship to pass through to one of the other portals on the Bravo Fleet map.

Throughout the Sector are a vast amount of natural resources that provide alloys and other materials that are particularly useful in the construction of Star Ships, especially around Raeyan. This is the prime reason that Star Fleet elected to build Avalon Fleet Yards in this remote sector.

For many years Avalon was the centre of the Federations influence in the Raeyan sector, primarily around the Raeyan system. Then following the long and bloody C'hakilian war the Federation was asked to expand its protection to include the area around the portal.

There are a number of races that are resident in the Raeyan Sector that are capable of Warp travel but the sectors remote location, powerful neighbors and the previously stated inability to navigate the portal has meant they are not heard of much outside of the sector. These races have established Treaties and Trade agreements that go back hundreds of years and are still adapting to the recent expansion of the Federations influence.

As well as the resident races the large abundance of resource attracts a number of transients to the sector, Small Orion colonies can be found, most of them operating as Pirates, Mercenary units at the beck and call of the Trade Consortiums to guard or even raid trade conveys, even secret Romulan outposts shipping the resources back to the Empire.

A number of Organizations have influence over the sector, especially from the point of view of Trade, while the Raeyan Protection Force attempt to police the sector.

Despite the abundance of resource the level of technology with the races in the Raeyan Sector is quite a bit lower than the rest of the Federation. Few races have ships that can go much faster than Warp 5 and weapon and shielding systems are decidedly inferior when compared to a Federation Starship.
